  Who helped bring the Ayatollah to power in Iran?   1. MEK / SOVIET  UNION (RUSSIA) The MEK (shown in photo) helped bring the Ayatollah to power. They started-off originally as a Soviet-backed Marxist group. They helped seize weapons  from the Shah's army and created street chaos.
